Ideal set up is room beyond the standard 58" cue length because for shots off the rail the shooter needs to line up body parts beyond that. Dean also nailed it. A shooter with even basic cue ball control could make you miserable by playing safety with the cue ball left in that area until your poor shots gave him an easy run out.

I can move the table away from the interior wall. What is the ideal distance (all sides) form the pool table edge for 58" cue?
