The people pumping it up say that it's only going higher. IDK. I have a friend who recently (over)paid about $500k for a concours '73 RS.

Of course I've been thinking about all the cars I didn't buy recently, like the "back of Panorama" quality black/black '71 911S sunroof coupe for $21k in about '04, (southern car, books/records/incredible maintenance and low miles), or the truly showroom condition black/black '73.5 targa with low original miles for ~$16k around the same time. That car was a targa and had CIS but when I say showroom condition, I mean it made PWD's car look like a swamp donkey.

The bummer is not just the pricing today, it's that examples like I list above are non-existent on the market. Truly first-rate enthusiast or concours original cars NEVER come up for sale on the open market and they used to be available at all times. All I see are 2nd or 3rd rate restored cars with questionable histories or "projects", like the one we're all drooling over this week on this BBS. Cars like that used to be on eBay every day of the week for $5k.

Oh well, that's life...
