Check your DVD player manual or look up on line what formats are supported. On the late 2012/2013 units they will play files like MKV or MP4 just burned onto a disc. Sometimes the size, frame rate, etc have to be certain specs such as the MP4 files I used to play on the thumb drive of my truck. For that I used a program named "Handbrake" which is an excellent conversion package. On older units they may want an "image" which means you had to create the ISO file and then burn it to disc. As noted, NERO is pretty much the standard.
