If he wasn’t in enough trouble for firing several shots into the air during an argument Saturday night, a 30-year-old man later compounded his problems by chasing after his girlfriend with a running chainsaw in south Wichita.

Numerous witnesses said an argument at a party in the 2000 block of South Topeka on Saturday night culminated in the man pulling out a handgun, pointing it at more than one person and then firing 6 to 8 shots in the air, Lt. Doug Nolte said.

He then left the house and went home to the 2300 block of South Washington. That’s just north of Pawnee.

There, he got into an argument with his live-in girlfriend and tried to grab her cell phone, Nolte said.

She resisted and a scuffle broke out before he pushed her onto the couch. He then grabbed a chain saw next to the couch and started it, chasing her into a bedroom, Nolte said.

The 36-year-old woman suffered injuries in the scuffle, but not from the chain saw. Police investigating the incident on South Washington discovered he was the same man involved in the argument and shooting incident on Topeka, Nolte said.

He was booked into jail on suspicion of several offenses
