If you want to eat well, you are probably going to have to go to P-town. If you stay in the burbs, eat local - no chains.
Report back. Excellent local beer as well.

"Cafe Allegro" was really good the last time I was there, but that's been a while.
I've not eaten in any of the others mentioned, I don't get to the West side to eat out much.
Voodoo donuts is VASTLY overrated. Vastly. Did I say vastly?
In Portland, try "Lucca" on Fremont, (stay away from Perry's across the street). "The Ringside" on Burnside is an institution,
it's decent, but Ruth's Chris has better food.. There's a little place in the Park Blocks called "Park Kitchen" - My new favorite restaurant.
And there are food carts all around the city. Fast food, but some of it is really good, and super healthy.
Breakfast at the Heathman, just to say you did it. Nothing fantastic, but good.
If you have time, look me up, I'm from Idaho, maybe I know your friend.
