As luck would have it, I own both a 1980 911SC and a 1983 928S. I've driven the 911 for 5 years and it has been my project/daily driver. I bought the 928 about a month ago in california and drove it back to colorado. As far as a road cruiser, the 928 beats the snot out of the 911. But getting into and out of the 928 is a pain in the butt. I have a 5 speed on both units. The 5 speed on the 928 has a totally different shift patern than the 911. Switching between both totally screws you up. The 928 is useless on any kind of bad roads, ie snow. The 50/50 weight distribution makes them squirelly as all get out. The 928 power wise is a real kick to drive. It sets you back in the seat when you punch it. Parts and repair manuals are hard to come by on the 928 as far as after markets are concerned. The 911 has a plethora of places buy parts. Not so with the 928. Many sites tout 928 parts but when you get into them the selectionis minimal. As a daily driver, I'll stick with my 911.
