Mark, in terms of "Bang for the Buck"... it is by FAR, the best thing one can buy for these bikes, when it comes to improving rideability.
I have done both, my 11S and then 12GS and I wouldn't want to go back. I have added a Techlusion and an exhaust and when people with comparable bikes ride mine, the consensus is usually "That is how it should be"...
No complaints about top end speed, although I rarely run over 100 mph these days. She still makes it up to about 130 MPH with ease, but why?
With the sprockets, it comes down to what riding style you prefer. If you drive the boxer the way it lends itself to, the added fun and ease of riding swiftly, is well worth the effort and the few bucks you spend.
YMMV
