#1 would be a drive down Hwy 1 but it sounds like you don't have a lot of time.
Have had lunch at Baja Cantina, good food and the drive on Carmel valley road is pretty nice. Little store across the parking lot was selling fancy birdhouses and they had a few car related items too. Woodies is good too, folks were fun to talk to about car stuff.
Downtown Carmel has quite a few stores that change their decor to fit the local events. I was there last August just before the Pebble Beach Concours and there were lots of decorations. Not often you see a jewelry store with a race car hood in the window. There's a classic car place over in Monterey on Del Monte blvd called Mohr Imports.
