That has to be the understatement of the year.
My only experience is with the airport in Mumbai and the surrounding neighborhoods. I have never seen such a "hell on earth" as the conditions under which those people "live", if we can really call it that. Absolutely appalling, and maddening at the same time. It leaves one with less than no respect for the Indian people and the caste system under which they live. As a matter of fact, it kind of leaves one wishing the most gruesome, horrible death imaginable on the Indian people of any means, for allowing this in their country, and profiting because of it.
That, and India remains the only country to which we regularly deploy for which we have to undergo mandatory anti-corruption training (as in Federal Government mandatory through the India Anti-Corruption Act). How to recognize it, how to avoid it, how to report it (certainly not to the Indian authorities), and all of that. That just makes the place all the more special for us.
Hate to be such a downer, but that place just infuriates me, and your statement about the growing - rather than narrowing - divide between the classes really struck a chord. It is getting worse - and we are funding it.
