You mentioned a 930. This is the diametric opposite of an 850. The 930 is a 911 on steroids, the experience is raw, visceral and the car can be a lot to handle. Have you driven one? If not, I recommend you do, and then drive as many 'normal' 911s as possible.
I recommend you check out a 993. This is the final air-cooled 911 and is rapidly becoming a modern classic. The performance is better than the 850, mostly due to it's being nearly 1,000 lb. lighter. The handling is closer to a normal car, it's quieter than previous 911s and the performance was improved vs earlier models. The 993 is the last of the aircooled, and one of the best sports cars ever made.
Thirty years from now, when you're sitting in front of the fire, bouncing your grandson on one knee, and he asks you "what kind of sports car did you drive back in the day", you won't have to say, "well, I only had a BMW 850, but I wish I bought a 993..."

You all guys have a point.
I want a raw car to make track ready. My plan with the P is to make a drivers car. Raw and crazy beast that I need to handle.
I love to drive the e31, and some of you say it is not a sports car I will agree.
Still it has this special feeling when I sit in it. The smell, the feel, the everything.
I have although always had the feeling: You need to own a 911 once in your life.
Thing is I like the look of the 964 and 930 more than the 993. Some would say I am crazy and I would agree. I am crazy as hell.
