Do not hollow it out. There will not be any measureable performance increase (you typically need at least 15 hp before any performance characteristic changes measureably) and even though most P-cars can pass a tailpipe test without a cat, that cat will still lower emissions. No sense in removing it, as the environmental costs outweigh the performance benefits.
And no, I'm not a tree-hugger, I just think that there's no point to pulling it off the car since there won't be any important gain.
