Exhaust or Fuel?
If the linkage is good and true it is probably exhaust or fuel. Engines are air pumps so flow & fuel is what makes them work (Otto Cycle). CAT bypass tubes are not too expensive but some work to swap & check for a plugged CAT. 83 still had CIS so check fuel pressures to rule out fuel starvation. However, the US 83 had more electronic controls than the older 3.0 SC motors (Lambda sensor , etc...). IMHO Plugs are plugs but they can burn valves & pistons if not correct. Checking the integrity of ignition components may be a second or third order course of action. Best of Luck.
