Small gauge.......

Picked up the 28 gauge double today. It has extractors, not ejectors (fine with me), automatic safety and the receiver is lightly case hardened with some simple but reasonably well done engraving. The barrels, opening lever, safety and trigger guard appear to be rust blued. The stock fits the metal quite nicely, actually much better than I had hoped. The action does not appear to have much wear, still opening a bit stiffly. The stock is just a bit short for me so I might just have to replace the butt plate with a rubber pad. The wood is a light to medium brown with cut checkering that unfortunately got filled in when the stock was finished. I may have to break out the checkering tool and clean it up a bit. But, as they say, the proof is in the pudding so a trip to the range will have to happen as soon as possible! I even lucked into a couple of cases of Winchester AA 28 gauge shells for a great price!
