I only wish that were a joke.
On my 1988 924S my blower motor has been slowly going out for a while now, with only top speed working on the 4-position switch next to the ventilation controls. So I've been quite toasty all winter.
It's not yet warm enough here for AC, but I've been using the blower motor to bring fresh air into the car. Yesterday I, ironically, stopped at an auto parts store to pick up a few things, jumped back in the car, turned the key and suddenly the motor started making a high pitched squealing noise as it turned. Turned off the blower entirely and the noise stopped. I didn't have the AC on, just the blower, so out of curiosity, I turned the AC on and it fired right up with the blower pushing plenty of air -- and no high-pitched squeal. Turned it back off and turned the blower on by itself again -- same sound.
Any ideas? Am I wrong that these are the same motor? If they're separate motors, how hard is it to pull the blower, and can I buy a NOS or rebuilt replacement somewhere? Our forum sponsor doesn't seem to list one. Or will I just have to go have it cleaned and rewound somewhere that does electric motor work...
Thanks,
Brandon
