I'm parting out an 87 944S, assume it's the same? Not hard at all, take off the plastic cover (carefully) then unscrew the blower motor cover and you'll have full access to the motor itself.
I don't know much about them but it's fairly easy to get access to it, so taking a look wouldnt hurt. If it's the same one as in my 944, I have a spare.
