I wouldnt buy a newer series (past E46) due to increased complexity. Wouldnt buy an M3 unless it was a very low mile car with a very complete service history and again nothing newer than 2005/6.
While it seems like it has been trouble free, that sure seems to me like a ton of maintenance to keep it that way. I think that is the reason so many BMW's go to crap, people think they are buying a Honda and only change the oil for the first 100,000 miles. When it starts to fall apart, they sell it and ***** about it on every forum.
