That's a good practice for sure, but in the situation in the video: There's no -real- way for the motorcyclist to act safely except to
maybe give himself an out off the shoulder. You never know, if he had been SUPER vigilant and hightailed it down the right the pickup driver could very well have reflexed off to the right as well and totally run the cyclist over that way.
The cyclist was very lucky no doubt about it.
