Fairbanks-Morse made an opposed piston 2 stroke diesel engine from the1940's until just a few years ago. Mostly used for locomotives and marine applications. It was a little different though - it used two crankshafts interconnected by bevel gears and a vertical shaft. The lower crank was the main output and the upper crank ran all the ancillaries; supercharger, injection pump, etc...
