I won a 1972 z28 on ebay last year at a relativly low price. The seller was claiming he had build sheet and original engine and original carb, distributer and some other key parts
in storage. Before the auction ended I asked if original engine or original specification engine He emailed orig block and heads. I won and sent a deposit. I then asked for pictures to verify his engine claims. I had to send an appraiser to look as the seller couldn,t or wouldn,t send clear pictures of casting numbers and dates. It turned out the block was cast 4 month after the car was built and the heads were cast a year earlier.
The other unique parts were now not to be found. He refused to renegotiate based on missing parts . I demanded my deposit back because the seller was not to be trusted. He kept my $1000 deposit but I was compensated $1000 by Ebay because of the paper trail. )I was still out the $250 I spent on an appraisal The seller was banned from ebay but is probably selling again under a diff screen name.
The car was probably still a good deal at the price but the problem with ebay is the ebay sellers, many are grifters and cons ,hidden among the normal people .
