Honestly, I'd just take my money back and be happy with that. He is back to where you started (he still has the car) and if he makes you whole again (you get all of your money back, including PayPal fees), then you are back to where you started too. So neither party is harmed. Move on and look for another deal, there are plenty of deals out there, so don't lose too much sleep over a remorseful seller. At least you weren't "screwed" or at least not yet, assuming you get your money back and the check is good. You might request a cashier's check as that is how you paid him!
