I don't think the wonks at DMV really understand the attraction of YOM Plates.

These "legacy plates" are not really 'black plates' (or yellow plates) as in the traditional, vintage sense; they'll be basically be normal serialized plates but in different colors. And they're available for any year vehicle, so you could have "1956" style plates on your 2015 Prius.

Personally, I'm skeptical of the idea. They will probably be made with modern materials (ie thin aluminum and enviro-friendly paint) and lI just don't think they'll have the same visual impact as real YOM plates. I'm sure law enforcement wants some sort of reflectorizing, so my educated guess it there will be a compromise and it will look like freeze-dried ass.

My '63 T34 has the original black plates.
