I'm sure you remember all the very early Van Halen interviews where he talks about his amp being modified by Jose Arredondo. Well, Mark went through all of the old Marshalls that Jose owned and found one that had the dead on Van Halen tone. He tore it apart and figured out the modifications and it is perfect. This amp was not "close" to the early EVH sound, it WAS the early EVH sound, dead on. I have owned probably a dozen stock plexis and have had variacs and Hot Plates and some of them were close enough to where you imagine if you had the right studio tweaks, the exact pickup, the correct tubes and the wind was blowing the right direction, it would have sounded like EVH. These Cameron mods in the right Marshall can nail the EVH early tone. Read about them at harmony-central.com under User Reviews-Guitar Amps-Mark Cameron. Another amp that nails the EVH tone is the Mojave Peacemaker. Awesome!
Very cool, so what do I have to do to my amp to get the EVH tone?
