Highschool kids get on the bus later than the smaller kids. It was like that even when I was in school 10 years ago so there is no "older looking out for younger".
I have no problem with a communal bus stop, I still wouldn't let them walk there unless me or one of the other parents who i talk to all the time was watching.
This world has become even more of a sick sick place (ie: the story this week of teenage girls getting snatched and held captive as sex slaves for a decade, same age as me) it's a little different when it's your babies.
