I've ridden quite a few mountain bike races where tandem teams show up, including a couple of 24 hour races with husband/wife teams - which I admit takes a very special relationship!
My all time favorite tandem MTB team was a single speed team of two guys at the old Humbug Hurry Up in Yreka California. That race started out with a police escort through town before turning us loose on the dirt. The MTB team was a riot - the stoker stood on the seat with one hand on the captain's shoulder so he could use the other hand to wave to the cheering crowd! Pretty cool. When we hit the dirt, they passed me on the climb like I was stuck in cement!
