One little investment I made while restoring my '44 was a DIY Zinc electroplating kit. It has proved to be a real asset, as the nuts, bolt, fittings and brackets all over the car can be re-finished to a high standard and can almost look new. However, once you start - you do get bitten by the plating bug...and you find yourself looking for things to plate. I have done most of the rear suspension fittings and they look great. Under the bonnet I have done the cam cover fittings, various throttle cable brackets, the engine lift brackets, the nuts and large washers on the strut towers, the bonnet (hood) catch and receiver as well as the little light over the fusebox...to name a few. Not finished in there though!
