I got my kit from eBay here in the UK, however, I would think that you should be able to source something down in NZ. You are right about the shipping costs, they would be high + the materials are classified as hazardous so best to get in country. Setting up the electrolyte tank solution is a bit of a task, but when it is all done it works really well (takes about an hour or so...) my kit uses a battery charger as a power source and using it is very straighforward. The longest part of the process (as always) is cleaning and preparing the parts for plating. I am sure you can get all the info you require by having a browse around the web. Good luck!
