I have the feeling my old mate has not long to go before he checks out. We've had three trips to the vet in the last month. It started with his incontinence getting worse with blood evident. Two courses of antibiotics and the blood stopped. His general well being picked up. After several week and alls fine we noticed a few spots of blood here and there last weekend. Yesterday's visit to the vet and he decided to be fine. Last night he seemed a little flat and wasn't interested in eating. The vet also noted (again) that his gums were very pale, as if he is anaemic, and to keep an eye on it.
He's lost a lot of muscle mass in his rear end (not uncommon says the vet) over the past year. He can get himself up and about but it takes time, and now it's getting cooler its is getting more difficult for him. He wears a coat when he's outside these days.
We've talked with the vet about letting him go when the time is right - I think it's coming sooner than later. :-(
It's a bit sad to think about but it's been on my mind a bit. Sorry to dump this on you all but I think I needed to offload it.
