What does that have to do with an air cooled car or water cooled Vanagon? At least on a newer 911 the limitation isn't the compressor, it's the overly convoluted and inefficient system that likes to leak. Lots of people have upgraded the A/C in their Carreras with new lines and condenser(s) but keeping their original compressors and have great A/C.
