Was experiencing a weird sound from inside the belt covers....a metallic pinging when cold. Appears to have been a slack(ish) cambelt

that was slapping the water pump guide. I had fitted the belts a couple of years ago and apart from regular start-ups the engine had done no miles really, but I guess the belt stretched a bit.
So, read the forum and followed some advice about re-tensioning (I have the spring tensioner) and that seems to have cured it. However, the belt might be a bit too tight now as cant quite get the 90 degrees twist. Anyway, it will be cold tomorrow, so will check again....don't want to damage the WP bearing
