When I talked to the pharmaceutical rep he never told me how much the drug actually cost. After getting my insurance information and my yearly income said it would cost me six grand out of pocket after my insurance, their discounts and a $600 rebate. Said I could appeal but unless I had some sort of financial hardship it wouldn't do any good. He did give me a number to doctor could call about it. Going to the Doc Monday and talk to him about it.
Tuesday at the doc visit they said my foot was starting to get an odor and took a sample for lab work.
Wednesday they called and put me on Clyndamiacin and said they woudn't have the test result until Thursday. Clyndamiacin was the antibiotic I was on for months.
Thursday when the home care nurse changed the dressing it didn't look much different but no longer had the odor.
Friday the doc called with the test results. Said I had a combination of strep and staph, the exact same thing the hospital infectious diseases doc told me had caused the gangrene in the first place and I spent 10 days on IV antibotics to get rid of. Had me come by the would care office and pickup a discount card for this new antibiotic. Right after that call the home care nurse came by and changed the dressing again. This time it had not only lost the odor, but lost all the redness and looked much much better. After she finished was when I went and picked up the card. It was after the doc left for the weekend before I could get ahold of the pharmaceutical rep. and was shocked at the cost.
I already had an appointment for this coming Monday morning.
