I lost three good relationships in my early days (25 - 30 yrs. old) because of variations of the blind drive to "fix it" for the ladies.
I would listen, but to the wrong message. I joined a "men's group" at a local crisis center (yrs. later, I became the director) and learned about "the nail".
It was one "Aha" experience after another, in those meetings...we all told the same story about our unconsciousness. Thank God for the patient female co-workers.
My sig line tells the story of my obscuration back then.
Growth, for me, was painful...simple, but painful.
