Every kid wanted a communicator and a phaser. It boggles my mind to think the flip phone has come and gone. Why have just a two way radio only? I can make video phones calls and all the other things a smart phone can do. A Star Trek communicator is outdated!
Everyone thought an automatic door was silly and would never happen. Now every store has automatic doors. They don't make the cool shoosh noise like in Star Trek, but they open automatically! And no one pays them any attention.

When I used to read more as a littler kid I would always gravitate towards Jules Verne and HG Wells. I dug science fiction, but maybe only in that steam-punk way of cool mechanical stuff, not the warp drives and such.
