I replaced the vanos in my e36. I scraped off the paper gasket from the front the head with a razor blade and installed a new steel gasket with the new vanos. I didn't do a good enough job removing the old material and now it leaks
So lesson learned, I ordered some gasket remover and a plastic scraper and a new oem gasket.
RTV is not called for in the installation.....
BUT....is it a good idea to lightly coat some RTV on gasket from the head to the gasket for extra insurance?
I'll really like to get some advice on sealing against leaks b/c I DO NOT want to do this job a 3rd time.
