Never got fooled by those either, but I did see many a seamen recruit stand mail bouy watch from 12am-4am... They would be standing right next to you wearing their sound powered headphones, rain poncho and general quarters helmet. Holding a long shafted gig hook to grab the mail he he.... I did fall for the "go down to the main space and ask for a BT punch" one... Around the time that they told me to go to the main space and ask for a diamond back (Dog pile you on the expanded metal floor) I had caught onto their antics and just smiled....
