Number of passes and orientation is VERY much a big key. On my neck I get one with the grain and one across the grain pass. I tried against the grain one time and it was a bloodbath. Took my neck a week to recover.

For blades, I really like the Red Israeli made Personna. I tried the Feather blades, and I felt they were sharp but pretty rough. It gave a couple close shaves, but pulled and irritated my neck after that. YMMV. My second choice is Astra Superior Platinum, after that, the Personna Blue Lab blades. I feel Astra is best value.
