I wish you could buy that cheap of an upgrade for these old Porsches. I see you want an 87-89 Porsche but in my experience a well sorted 915 transmission works great. I wouldn't rule out the 84-86 Carerras.
I haven't tuned the car yet, I will, but waiting til I feel I need the power and will definitely go apr. I have changed the springs, to more euro spec type of vw spring(DG springs), added three chassis braces from unibrace, changed the tail lights to the euro r LEDs, and bought a set of lighter weight OZ wheels with summer rubber. I love the car and plan on keeping it for a while. The tune will be probably my last major mod. I'm an architect and also finishing a renovation to my house that has taken too long. I am going to need a project, so looking at a 911 seems to be it. I have been looking at pretty much any mid to late 80s carreras coupe. I have the cash, just trying to win over the wife. I work in detroit and cross the border every day so in some ways I have the best of both worlds as I can source stuff from both sides of the border.
