JE Pistons for my 73 911S

Someone recently sent me this question:

JE Pistons for my 73 911S

"Just finished reading your "HOW TO REBUILD AND MODIFY,,," and was wondering If JE Pistons are as light as the Mahle. I have heard they are not and may rattle when engine is cold. I own a 2.4 liter S i'm rebuilding and was wondering is the trade off worth putting JE Pistions to increase the compression. I have a Complete Mahle pistion and cylinder set with only 12,000 miles on,however they are 8.5:1. Also will the increase in compression increase engine temperature. I only use the car for hard street driving so I don't even know if I"ll feel the 10 HP.Also, any problem with the piston clearence going to high compression. Thanks for both of your GREAT books."

I do recommend JE pistons. They are high quality replacements for the Mahle originals, and can also be 'dialed-in' to your exact specifications with respect to compression ratio. I do not see any quality differences when using JE versus Mahle, otherwise I would not recommend them.

I'm not sure what weight has to do with rattling? Perhaps you could elaborate?

An increase in compression may cause clearance conflicts, but these can be determined only during the final clearance checks that you perform on your engine.
