I don't ever hide my stripes, but I do enjoy the sociology of observing other people and their perceptions around these cars. This morning I drove my '67 912 to work. When new it was a fire breathing 90bhp. Add 40 years and 5000ft of elevation and I'm lucky if I am making 75 at the crank.
It gets the usual car guy/girl 'cool car' nods. It also gets a certain ego response two. On my drive today I had two separate cars, a fairly new BWM 535 and a fairly new Corvette, both rev on me and launch "against" me at stoplights. Clearly they are making certain assumptions about the car (and the owner?) based solely on the fact that it is a Porsche. I just chuckle and dawdle through my 4 gears as they blaze off into the distance...
