That depends solely on what conventions you are using.
Geary is using a convention that states implicit multiplication (juxtaposition) has precedence over division or explicit multiplication.
Using that convention, this is true:
48÷2(9+3) = 48÷[2x(9+3)] = 2
Again, this is not about the associative property.
