It's been a long time since I've had a 914 but as I recall you can change the position the light parks in by changing the position of the linkage on the motor shaft. It doesn't take much. If memory serves me correctly the motor shaft is splined. Watch the linkage work (move the light by hand with the manual knob) to see which way you need to move the linkage to correct the positioning.
Note that when you do this (use the manual knob) at some point the limit switch will take over for you and cycle the HL back to where it thinks the unit should be. Unless you disconnect the battery first.
