Great trip today. My 911 ran VERY well, actually probably the best ever. When warm she is idling at about 500 rpms. Beautiful. When cold, starts but won't idle for first 30 seconds, then idles very low at about 300 rpms (definitely a WUR tweak). I am getting slightly more oil smoke than usual and the temp of the engine was at the solid white line @ 210, usually it has been about 180 or 190. Temp outside wasn't that hot. My hypothesis is that I haven't put the hose from the right heat exchanger up to the blower motor so all that heat is cooking under the car. The bumper is extremely hot so I think the theory holds water.
When the car is warm but sitting for about 30 minutes, it gives me a little trouble starting. Again, I think it is the low idle. I'll correct this soon.
The trip with novadia and hbueno was great. Great drive being sandwiched between two redheads...My son enjoyed changing the gears as well. Funny, he is already used to the new shift linkage, me, I had trouble putting it into 4th a couple of times (sorry hbueno, I think I caused you to get cut off at least once!). Each time I drive this car I enjoy it more and more. I best avoid getting a 911 cab as my MB would be stuck in the garage.
Running into Richy007 was definitely another highlight of the trip. I have to admit, it was a little freaky having someone who just happened to be at our destination come up and ask me if I was the guy from pelicanparts! What are the odds!?! Richy, I am hoping you take this interaction as a sign you need to get one soon...finish the house upgrades soon so you can join us. Congrats on gradating from lurker to poster!
I totally get the house thing. I had to rehab my house as well. I redid every floor, wall and ceiling in the house. Here are some before and after photos.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/446692-before-after-pics-11.html#post7263971 I got the car just before starting my last bathroom (the river rock); the deal with the wife was I couldn't touch the car until the BR was complete. The day it was done, while the silicon beads were still drying I was having a flatbed take the car back to my house!
So, on to my next thoughts.
Thought 1: Novadia mentioned that my oil leak/smoke is most likely due to cylinder number 6 seal. I have to look into this one, would love to cut down on the oil leaks.
Thought 2: I have been thinking a lot about the upcoming bodywork. I cannot seem to get this color combo out of my head. I LOVE this green and I love the idea of doing the two tone. Not the Irish green I was planning on doing but this feels a little more fun for my toy. I would keep the frunk, hood and rear decklid black, but the fenders, doors and probably the bumpers would go with this green. Not an original porsche color that I can tell but this shouldn't impact value on this car.
