If you search tires on TireRack.com and look at the individual tire specifications it shows you the recommended rim widths for each tire size. The stock tire diameter is about 24.9" and you need to stick "close" to that overall diameter with whatever tire size you pick or you will affect your gearing and your speedo/odom. Tire Rack also shows you overall diameter in the specifications but you can calculate it yourself with this formula:

(TreadWidth * SidewallHeightAsFraction * 2 / 25.4) + TireWheelSize = overall diameter in inches

so for a stock 225/50/16 tire...

(225 * 0.50 * 2 / 25.4) + 16 = 24.86 inches
