280 is pretty ambitious. I put some new jugs (nickies) on mine and went the 3.2SS route. Twin plugs, elgin mod-s cams, 46mm PMOs, SSIs. I went with 9.8:1 compression since it is a driver/street car and I wanted to use pump gas. I'm doing 228hp/210ft-lbs at the wheels on a dynojet. That would be something like 260hp at the crank.
In the end, it probably would have been cheaper to drop in a 3.6. But, I wanted the "old-school" look and be able to have built it myself. Plus, I have the peace of mind knowing exactly the state of all the innards of my engine.
