I've finally made the leap. I purchased my 2002 C4 last week. It's a cabriolet, slate grey metallic. I bought it from the original owner down in San Diego, and other than the whole time going by very fast, the experience was a pleasure. The seller and his wife were very gracious, answered all our questions, had no hesitation about the PPI.
My wife accompanied me on the trip from Denver to San Diego, and helped with the needed perspective at times, as we were looking at another car as well. The drive back to Denver across the desert was uneventful, except for the check engine - drive to workshop indicator that came on in Utah. I've arranged for a local Porsche shop to do the necessary fixes to the car next week.
I have to keep looking down at the Porsche badge on the steering wheel to remind me that I actually own a Porsche 911 now. What a trip!
