14 pin connector broken

After removing to clean a couple times the connector on both male and female sides have cracked and fallen apart in my hands. I have checked with a couple suppliers and they are over $40 a side. Just too much for a plastic connector. I am thinking about using separate connectors and layers of shrink wrap....or just solder all of them together permanently .

Has anyone done this??? I don't see a problem with it and if made weather tight...may solve the corrosion issue.

I am NOT paying $90 for a new plastic connector.
