That worn automatic damper plate can be replaced with a used static clutch set up for a whole lot less money. This involves removing the damper and flywheel and replacing with a manual flywheel, clutch and pressure plate (sans throw out bearing). Where the damper will cost you approx $1300-1500 new, you can pick up the manual conversion parts used for approx $300 if you shop around.

Many people have made this change, including myself, and it works well - especially if you don't want to spend a lot of money.
