Yeah, the guys at Fodera are old-school artisans. They still carve things by hand. Both are neck-through construction. The fretless is 3-piece ash neck with ebony fingerboard. The body wings are chambered walnut with a walnut tone block. The top is walnut. The fretted is 5-piece maple neck with bubinga stringers, chambered walnut body wings, walnut tone block and the top is Brazilian rosewood.
The fretless ash neck is just crazy nice. Evidently they are starting to use red oak for necks as well. The walnut is a "standard" top. The Braz is hard to come by and is getting stupid-expensive. Plus you can't export instruments made with it. The wood is CITES certified but there are all kinds of crazy stories of instruments getting confiscated internationally. There is talk of instruments having to get passports...
