Heh. I used to run my '64 XLH without a battery entirely. But the lights got really dim at idle and flickered pretty bad at low RPM. So I added a capacitor. Which worked great until the polarity on the generator reversed itself (which apparently they will do every now and again without a battery to "tell" the regulator what the correct polarity is). Which would make short work of the cap...
