Driving on the highway has nothing to do with the impact absorbers behind the bumper. They are there to protect you from major damage in 5mph bumps, such as the one you experienced, not highway speed collisions.
Without those 'impact absorbers' you would have had much more serious damage.
As others have said, don't worry about driving it
