Lots of questions about A/C, here's what I know. I had originally planned on trying to get it to work as one of the last parts of this project, (I even bought a new belt) but ended up investing far more time and money into this car than I originally expected. Good for the next buyer, but I really have done nothing with the A/C. Per the previous owner the system worked in the late 1990s when he removed the belt due to power concerns, and because he never used it. The system appears to be 100% complete, which is a good starting point. The A/C blower works fine, because I use it for fresh air. It still has all of the hoses, receiver/drier, condensers front and rear, condenser fan, and evaporator in the smugglers box. The only thing that I know needs replaced is the A/C thermostat, the capillary tube that attaches to it was pinched when I did the carpet. I would take the approach of simply replacing the receiver/drier ($32) and thermostat switch ($43), vacuuming down the system, and filling with R12 or an R12 alternative like Freeze 12. You'd be in it for less than $100 and very possibly have working A/C. The price is OBO, and I am willing to provide a reasonable allowance for fixing the A/C.
